Charlotte is 4 months old!
Our little Charlotte is now 4 months old!
We’re as shocked as she is!!!
Time is F-L-Y-I-N-G!
And the party has just begun.
Her official 4 month weight: 11 lbs 9.5 ounces (11th percentile)
Official length: 24 inches (42nd percentile)
Head circumference: 24th percentile
She’s not the biggest baby around but she’s staying consistent. Each month she’s gaining almost exactly 1 pound. She eats well, sleeps well, poops well and spits up all the time so I think she gets her fill of food. Her pediatrician is not at all worried. He says she’s just a small kid and is very healthy. She has met all of the “expected milestones” for her age.
Charlotte is still exclusively breastfed. She eats every 3-4 hours during the day.
Sleep: She’s still taking several naps during the day, especially in the morning and afternoon. She gets quite cranky if she doesn’t get at least 45 minutes or so at a time. And that’s hard to do in our house unless everyone’s asleep. She takes her final nap around 6:30 or 7 p.m. and then is ready for her dinner and then bedtime. She goes to bed at 8:30 p.m. usually and sleeps until 6-7 am. When she wakes up, she eats and then goes back to sleep until Cameron wakes up (usually only 30-45 minutes later).
On the weekends, when I’m sleeping during the day after working the night before, Charlotte spends a good portion of the day napping and eating with me in bed. It’s convenient for both Brian & me since I don’t want to have to wake up to pump and it allows him a break from double kid duty. She’s also really well “behaved” for me and has no problems getting her naps in.
Charlotte is a mommy’s girl and I will say right now I enjoy every minute of it. I love that she watches me all the time. I love that she smiles every time our eyes meet. I love that I can calm her. I even love that she wants me to hold her all day.
Milestones this month:
– she’s just beginning to reach for objects that she sees.
– standing when being held
– putting everything in her mouth
– she found her hands!
– first rice cereal
– she recognizes herself (or what she thinks is just a really cute baby) in the mirror and in a picture on the computer monitor and reacts to it
– she “kisses” now.. more like sucking on my face but still just as sweet
– We’re starting to see anxiety from her when she’s held by someone other than Brian or me. We are going to work hard to help her through this one.
– She started to take notice of those curious furry creatures that run around our house barking and meowing. She thinks they’re quite funny. Especially when her big sister is playing and laughing with them.
She still has light brown hair. A tuft in the front and a tuft in the back with very short brown/blondish hair coming in all over.
Her eyes still haven’t turned brown yet! I’m beginning to wonder if they will. They are blue/green/gray/brown.. so maybe more of a hazel color?
She still loves to be swaddled at night before going to sleep. During the day, she falls asleep with her hands above her head, covering her ears and eyes.
Brian says she’s a dramatic baby. She can be perfectly content until she sees someone and then cries to be held. She seriously wants to be held all day and is then happy as can be when she gets to do so. And sometimes it’s just more convenient to carry her around all the time. For example, grocery store trips… Should we listen to a baby scream the whole time because she’s in her carseat and get glares from people who have forgotten what it’s like to have small children? Nah! We just carry her (she’s certainly not a heavy little thing) and then she’s perfectly behaved for at least an hour to get the shopping done. She’s a social baby and loves to have touch and the warmth of her parents. Plus she gets to see more when we carry her around all day. And if my memory serves me right, I seem to recall a certain someone deciding she didn’t want to be carried anywhere once she figured out she could walk. I’m enjoying it while I can.
She’s getting easier for Brian on nights that I’m working. He usually gets her to sleep on time and without too much difficulty. She has no problem taking a bottle from him and lately has been sleeping through the night for him too.
We love all the faces she makes. My favorite? Of course her ear-to-ear grin. I can’t help but smile back.
“Not as tasty as I had hoped.”
This one is, of course, her signature look. We call it the “Char Char.” Wrinkled forehead and wide eyes with a curious twinkle to them.
We are just so happy to have this little girl in our lives. She’s really different from Cameron already and we are very excited to see how her personality continues to develop. I hope she will always want to be close to us.
This is the one of the onesies that the family made for her at our baby shower. We treasure stuff like this.
Happy 4th Month, Charlotte!
