I’ll try to hold back the tears…
My baby is ONE!!
This isn’t her “official” 12 month post, but just some first pictures of what Charlotte looks like as a 1 year old!
Due to illness, her first birthday party was postponed but she still was able to smash up her cake.
Her party has been rescheduled to October 21st. Double the cake for this little one.
I really wanted to hire a professional photographer for her first year pictures. For many reasons, it wasn’t an option for us so we tried our best to capture her “oneness” ourselves. This is just the first trip outdoors. I have a few more ideas I’m hoping to incorporate when we get the chance in the next week or so.
Her brand spanking new Charlotte chair. Thanks, Mimi!
I think purple is her color.
Wind blown. My poor little sick darling. This is cold #4 for her for the month of September……
When it rains, it pours.
And her adorable big sister was joining us for the fun.
I love this next one.
Stay tuned for more!
Cameron woke up in a great mood and feeling great too. We decided to let her go to her first day of school.
It was the first time we’ve set our alarm to get up in a long time! She popped right out of bed with me when it went off. I tossed and turned all night long worrying about missing the alarm and tending to Charlotte who is still sick. She was eager to eat her breakfast and get to school so she could play on the playground.
She picked at her breakfast and drank her juice. And even let me brush her hair without any tears.
Here’s her official first day of school picture for 2012.
And her signature goofy grin that she loves to give when mommy is taking pictures.
She went into class with no problems and no tears. She sat down in a chair and began playing right away. She has 3-4 children in her class this year that were in her class last year too.
I know it will be a great year for her!
Well tomorrow is the big day…
Cameron is heading back to school! She will be doing another year at the same preschool and will have a new teacher, new classroom and new friends.
After a haircut, a new pair of shoes and some jeans that actually fit, she’s excited and very eager to get started.
The unfortunate part of it all is that she may miss her first day. 🙁 Both kiddos are sick again from what I’m guessing was either the Meet the Teacher day or they picked something up in the church nursery. We’ll know in the morning whether or not she will actually be able to go.
Here are our sick sweeties on a walk this evening… the last night before the start of a great year!
Cameron 2 years and 9 months (almost)
Dunno what’s up with this crazy face….
Charlotte 11.5 months
Here we are again! Charlotte is 11 months old!
It is SO hard to believe that we are now just a few weeks from her first birthday.
She weighs 17 pounds and is about 27.5 inches long.
We’ll be having her 1 year well check around her birthday to see where she falls on the curve. If I remember correctly, Cameron was about 19 pounds at the one year mark.
Charlotte wears size 2 and 3 shoes. Size 6-9 month clothes. Size 3 diapers.
Charlotte’s had a good month. She’s getting closer and closer to getting up and walking across the room.
Here are some big moments for Charlotte this month:
– Waving and clapping (when asked) 8-5-12
– Standing up by herself (without holding on to anything)
– Pushing her walker 8-20-12
– Falling asleep in her high chair 8-23-12
– Saying “Mama”
– Graduating from baby food to big person food!
– 2 more teeth!
-And her first ponytail!
Teeth are popping up all over the place! Her total tooth count is now up to 6! Her top left second tooth broke through on 8-5-12 and the top right second tooth on 8-23-12. She was pretty fussy during this month and I think we can attribute at least part of it to teething.
She’s still my little blonde baby with pretty brown eyes. Her hair is getting much longer now, with most parts of it being about 3 inches long. It’s getting to where I have to clip it or pull it back most days. It’s still so baby soft and fine. I love to run my fingers through it.
Charlotte’s personality is showing through even more now. She has her own little quirks just like any kiddo. Her favorite little “thing” to play with is tubes like she’s holding in this picture. Lotion, diaper cream, sunscreen, etc. She carries them around with her while she crawls and holds on to them like she’s got the greatest toy of all. She also likes to play the “I’ll drop it and make you pick it up over and over” game with these.
And like any little one her age, she’s still very much into putting any and everything into her mouth. We have to watch her carefully. She has this thing she started doing where she picks up a toy (foam letters usually) and puts it in her mouth and holds it there while starts crawling off. If you have ever seen a cat catch something and proudly bring it’s prey home to it’s master.. that’s what she reminds me of. She’s proudly crawls up to me with the toy in her grinning toothy mouth as if to say, “Look what I can do, mom!”
We are thankful we had another healthy month. We all had a cold this week but that was the first since May when Cameron’s school let out. Months ago, Charlotte had us so worried with persistent fevers but got past that and has proved to be a healthy little ham. We did go to the pediatrician once this month for a rash on her face. You will probably notice it in several of the pictures this month. It started out minor, just around the mouth like a drool rash. And then it started spreading up her face around the nose and under her eyes. It got to be really bad and she seemed irritated by it so I took her in. Turns out she’s just got sensitive skin. Teething, drool, foods and whatever else she manages to get on her face irritate it and cause the rash. We’ve been using a cream he recommended and she does get some relief. We have to apply it every day though, several times a day, or the rash comes back. He said this is not uncommon and will pass with age.
So the little bit got brave this month and decided to try out standing on her own. I’m going to take a video of it because it’s just so darn cute. She is SO proud of herself when she stands up and balances. The look on her face is just priceless. She likes to crawl up to me and use me as leverage to pick herself up. That way I can help catch her when she loses her balance. But she also tests it out on her own too! I caught a few of these on camera!
She’s so stinking cute I can’t stand it.
By the way, the picture above is from a day that mommy dressed her. The picture below, a day that daddy dressed her. It cracks me up. We definitely each dress Charlotte to our own liking. This is good. Maybe she’ll be really well rounded like big sister.
So she hasn’t worked up the courage to take any steps while standing up like this but she has figured out that she can push her walker and get around all over the place. The interesting thing to me is that Cameron never did this! But she was very brave with taking steps. Funny how different all kids are. Charlotte cruises all over the place holding on to furniture or whatever she can grab.
Here’s a video from the first day she discovered she could do this! *Sorry it’s so dark*
She’s like speed racer behind it now.
She seems to be understanding more now. She can wave and clap when we ask her to. She doesn’t say “bye-bye” but she waves when someone says it. She’s also started saying “Maa” and “Mama” and she says it to me! I think she knows what it means. She says it when she wants me and when I pick her up she gets really excited and says it more.
Charlotte and Cameron have both transitioned well with some major changes that have been happening in our lives. They’re little troopers. We’ve been excited to see them start playing together more this month. Cameron likes Charlotte’s company. You can often hear her saying, “This way Charlotte. Come here Charlotte. Let’s play ____ Charlotte.” We pulled out the tent and they have really enjoyed going in and out and in and out. Cameron likes to read in it and Charlotte follows. Sometimes they just play follow the leader and Cameron leads her around. They have transformed moving boxes into tunnels. What’s really funny is that Cameron gets scared easily and calls on Charlotte to comfort her. She wants her to play with her (on her terms) and not leave.
One of my favorites. <3
This is one of the only pictures of them together where I think they actually look alike. I love it.
She’s sporting her first ponytail!
Pigs are so exciting!!
So another big change this month is that baby food is a thing of the past. She’s not a fan. Now when I tell you that Charlotte Hanna Edge can eat, I don’t mean she just picks at a few things and nibbles here and there.
This. Child. Can. Eat.
She eats absolutely anything. And everything. There’s nothing she doesn’t like. And she eats so much of it. She out eats Cameron at every meal. Some of her favorites now are: bananas, blueberries and strawberries, plain greek yogurt, cottage cheese, tortillas and cheese, mac n cheese, steamed veggies, bread, spaghetti (she shovels this in), chicken, oatmeal, beans, and on and on. I’m telling you, she likes it all. I don’t want to speak to soon, but I’m hoping this is a good sign for things to come.
She also started drinking from a sippy cup! She’s never really been a fan of the bottle so she skipped right to the cup. We’ve just started (in the last week) to wean her from breastfeeding. I wasn’t sure how long we would go but Brian and I both feel that it’s for the best that we transition her. We’ve got to make it a process because she has been so dependent on it for the last 11 months. I feel so fortunate to have been able to provide this gift to her for her first year. It has without a doubt brought us closer. Her bond to me is so special. And hopefully she’s received everything she needs in the realm of brain development and immunity from it. Aside from all that, it has been a big help to us financially to not have to buy formula. 🙂
I’m embarrassed to admit that Charlotte still sleeps in her swing. She still fits it very comfortably and prefers it over her crib. Our thought process is that we’ll tackle one thing at a time. Once we’re done with the breastfeeding and she’s sleeping more soundly through the night then we’ll move to the crib. Baby steps.
She’s sleeping okay at night though and takes 1-2 naps per day. She rarely makes it the whole night without waking up but she’s getting easier to put back to sleep.
Another big first for Charlotte occurred on her 11 month birthday. She fell asleep in the highchair! This has been a long awaited milestone. She normally squawks and screams in it until we present her with foods galore or remove her from it. On this day, she was so tired that she actually got comfortable and fell asleep without even so much as a peep!
Can you even believe it?? I was shocked. I was able to cook almost all of dinner without having to entertain a baby at the same time. I hope this becomes a regular occurrence around dinner prepping time.
She loves to imitate faces, sounds and gestures. She loves to squeal with delight when she sees someone she loves. And she is still a 100% mommy’s girl. She’s got my heart no question about it.
She’s as dramatic as they come but so full of love and life. It’s just crazy to think that a year ago we were eagerly anticipating her arrival. We didn’t yet know her. And we can’t imagine life without her now.
The party planning has begun. We’re going to have some polka dot fun and we can’t wait!!
