Cameron’s 2nd birthday party was 12-10-11.
She had such a great time.
We let her pick the theme. One day I had her sit me while we looked at themes online. There were several that she recognized and liked such as Caillou, Barney, Yo Gabba Gabba, Sesame Street, Minnie Mouse, farm animals, Disney Princesses etc, but ultimately she picked the sock monkey (ever so affectionately referred to as EE in our household) theme.
This was no surprise considering her attachment to her “EEs”.
These two are her favorites. She likes them close at all times.
We used a picture like this for her invitation.
Her uncle Forrest is to credit for making her smile. She certainly wont do it for me when I have a camera in front of her. Silly kid.
This year’s party had a strict (and very small) budget so we had the party at our house again and invited mostly family guests and a couple close friends.
I saw some ideas on Pinterest for her cake and decorations. It is seriously the greatest website ever and you should definitely check it out.
The whole party went by so fast and we were in such a rush decorating that I didn’t get any pictures that are really any good but here’s one.
Instead of doing balloons with helium, you just hang them upside down from the ceiling. After doing it, I really prefer this look over helium balloons. With the whole room decorated it gave a neat effect.
We also decided to bake her cake ourselves instead of buying one. We got the recipe also from Pinterest.
This was my inspiration.
Here’s the link to the blog responsible for this beauty.
Yes that’s cookie dough between the layers. It looked amazing. Mine, not so much but it’s the thought that counts right? I actually did a practice cake first with cookies on top just like the one pictured but decided to do just chocolate chips on top for her party cake and did cookies as party favors.
The cake tasted pretty good. The frosting turned out nice. It was honestly the first cake I’ve ever made that didn’t come from a box mix and the first time I’ve ever made frosting too…Oh and cookies from scratch. Sad, right? But the good news is I actually loved every minute and challenge of baking it and can’t wait to do more baking in the future. It felt so good to actually make something for my kid. And it felt even better to watch her eat it like it was going out of style. 😉
So in addition to cake, we had pizza. Who doesn’t love pizza, right? And my amazing parents made their “world famous” greek salad. So delicious!
Cameron & pink EE enjoying their pizza.
My big birthday girl & me. Yep, still not a fan of cameras can you tell?
And we can’t forget little sister who was so well-behaved and let Cameron get all of the attention that day. She just “hung out”.
Cameron playing with Uncle FD’s hat.
Here are a few pictures of some of the friends and family who came to help celebrate.
Cameron’s friends (and kiddos to long time friends of ours): Kaitlyn, Jillian & Kennedy
My beautiful grandmother holding Charlotte. She’s got the touch!
Grandpa helping keep Picco warm. Poor little boy was so nervous (and cold) with all the people in the house. Glad he found a safe spot!
Aunt Emily keeping Charlotte happy!
The Newlyweds, Kelly & Jenna, just back from the bahamas.
After lots of visiting and eating, everyone settled down to watch Cameron open presents. She got lots of help from her friends. And it was a good thing. Two year olds love the gifts they get and sometimes too much. She kept getting side tracked from previous gifts and didn’t want to move on to open more. It might have taken 10 years to open them all if she didn’t have the experts there to help.
Olivia! Or as Cameron woud say, “O-ya-ee-ya”
The vacuum. Oh boy. This one was a huge hit. More about this later.
After getting tons of awesome presents, it was time for cake!
Time to eat!!
There’s a smile!
And then it was play time!!
All of the kiddos went upstairs to release some of the energy the food and sweets gave them. They had a blast.
Some things don’t change in a year. And Cameron’s love for balloons is one of them.
Ok this is just too cute, right? Can you believe they make real digital cameras for kids these days??
Oh the vacuum. Let me tell you. Cameron has a slight fear of our vacuums. It’s the kind of fear where when we open to door to the vacuum closet she runs and jumps on the couch to get out of the way, but keeps it in sight because she’s still very interested in it. And when it’s off and she feels it’s safe, she goes up to it and inspects it more closely. She even asks for it to come out when she sees a mess on the floor. Until last week, she’s been calling them “Vacs”.
Her Aunt Joanie got her a vacuum of her very own. It plays classical music or vacuum noise and Cameron plays with it all the time. She LOVES it. She takes it very seriously, her vacuuming. You can tell because her tongue is out. Thank you SO much, Joanie!
Here’s a picture from several days later. Still vacuuming. She’s a busy two year old.
So there you have it! Her party was a success. She’s a happy 2 year old.
Thank you to everyone who came and made it a special day for her.
Charlotte turned 3 months old Friday!
And now the fun begins!
Her official 3 month weight?
10 lbs 8 ounces
She’s not a very big girl but she’s full of life and full of love.
How’s she sleeping?
Fabulous. She goes to bed at 9:30-10 pm and sleeps until 6:00 am, nurses for a few minutes and the back to sleep for about 2-3 hours…depending on if big sister lets her sleep or not. She also naps throughout the day.
All the time. Every 2-3 hrs during the day and sometimes snacks in between. She is still exclusively breastfed.
She refuses pacifiers and bottles from me, though she will take the bottle from Brian- thank goodness.
She still likes to be swaddled (just not too tight) and tucked in to sleep.
When she falls asleep while being held, it’s usually with one arm over her eyes or ears.
She smiles all the time, loves to be talked to and even coos back.
She does NOT like:
– being cold
– bath time
– wet or dirty diaper
– mommy going to work
– being put down while awake
She is perfectly content to be held (facing out) all day, and she has no problem making that clear. 🙂
She makes me feel so loved. She is a mommy’s girl. She doesn’t like me to be far away.
Since going back to work, she’s made Brian work hard to keep her happy & content. But in the 3 weeks I’ve been back we’ve already seen a huge change in how comfortable she is with him. She loves him and he makes her feel safe. While my work schedule does make it hard on both of us, it leads to the girls developing a bond with their dad that many children don’t get. It’s hard at first but when Charlotte is a little older, the three of them are gonna have a blast while mommy is at work.
Daddy & Charlotte playing Star Wars.
Milestones this month:
– Rolled over from tummy to back (12/23/11)
– She got her first cold (12/19/11)
– first laugh (at about 10-11 weeks)
She’s also starting to like to put some weight on her feet when being held (like standing in your lap).
And she gets better at holding her head up every day. Tummy time strength is usually very good if she’s recently fed and not to sleepy.
She still has a good amount of hair. A tuft of dark brown in the very front and very back. In between is thin but still definitely brown.
Her eyes are still blue but dark and starting to look blue/green/brown. We can’t wait to see what color they will be.
Lots of hand in mouth action in the last month.
And toothless grins.
And Christmas dresses. Yes we have lots after two winter babies.
But we love Christmas outfits so it’s perfect!
Dainty little girl.
We’re getting lots more kicks while she’s on her back. She likes to look at lights and toys and kick in excitement.
She really loves her big sister. And grins whenever she sees her. She watches every move she makes.
Hard to believe our littlest is already 3 months. Seems like she just got here.
We love her dearly. Our sweet baby Charlotte.
Our dog, Picco, doesn’t hesitate to get right in the middle of what’s going on in our house.
He absolutely adores both of the children and enjoys snuggling up with them to keep warm.
I was playing with Charlotte tonight and Picco hopped up on the couch and did this.
I was immediately reminded of one of my favorite childhood poems.
Mrs. McTwitter the baby-sitter,
I think she’s a little bit crazy.
She thinks a baby sitter’s supposed
To sit upon the baby.
Such a silly puppy. Our very own baby sitter.
Lucky girl got to have a Christmas program (her very first!!) and a Christmas party on her birthday!!!
We were SO SO SO excited to get the opportunity to go watch her class in action. Her teachers have been telling us all about it for weeks now.
This is a video of the whole 12 minute program. Cameron is on the left hand side of the stage with a solid red dress, black tights and pig tails.
She pretty much does her own little thing the whole time. Ok she chimed in every now and then when she felt like it. 🙂 I couldn’t help but giggle at how cute all the little toddlers were in their theatrical debut. You’ll see in the video, one little girl was clearly not happy about it. At one point several get distracted by the trees and have to be redirected back to their seats. That’s part of what makes being 2 years old so adorable. You never know what to expect.
If you want to watch it full screen, here is the link to it on YouTube.
And here are some pictures from her program and the party that followed.
Tongue out. She’s focused.
Her whole class. Are they cute or what??
Shake Shake Shake
Love that profile!
“Where are the jingle bells? Where are the jingle bells?”
“Here I am! Here I am.”
Performing on stage is hard work! Gulping the capri sun at her class party!
She got to wear the birthday hat!!! She was so shy when they sang to her and hid her eyes under the hat.
She’s almost 2!
We have been quite busy lately and I haven’t had the chance to update the blog.
I went back to work 2 weeks ago so we’ve been adjusting to that and also planning Cameron’s birthday party!
It was great and we’ll have pictures soon.
Tomorrow is Cameron’s big day and she’ll spend it starting with her Christmas Program at school (yes we will be getting video and pics if we can) and then her class Christmas party. They’ll be celebrating Cameron’s birthday then too! What a great time for her!
We also have her 2 year well check at the pediatrician tomorrow afternoon.
Here’s the almost birthday girl.
And her almost 12 week old baby sister.
